OBBO Has a new website
The ORHA is pleased to announce that the OBBO now has its own website and all updates and information relating to the OBBO will be posted to that site. Any questions relating to the OBBO should be directed to them at www.obbofuturity.ca
President’s Message
Show season and our year-end awards banquet are now behind us for another year, and all that is left now are memories of shared fun, accomplishments and missteps. And of anticipation for what next year will bring.
Congratulations to all our Champions – the ORHA was very well represented this year.
Thank you to everyone who made the shows such a success – Duane Hicks, there to man the gate, scribe or help out wherever he could, Mike and Sam Munroe for organising and running the Grand Finale show, Joanne Milton and her team for making sure the office ran smoothly and judges were taken care of, Alan Barnes and our other announcers, the generous show hosts and show managers, Committee Chairs and members of those committees, and the many others who work so hard behind the scenes to make sure things run smoothly. You are all unsung heroes and I thank you.
And a special thanks goes to the O.R.H.A. Board of Directors for all their hard work, ensuring we get the opportunity to enjoy this great sport.
Over the winter months, I ask you to please consider how you might become more involved with the O.R.H.A. – we need member participation. Perhaps you could join a committee, scribe or help with the gate, or write some articles (I’m always looking for help with this).
In 2012, we will be hosting the Regional Affiliate Finals with our Grand Finale, and that will require a lot of extra help – sponsors to offset the costs and increase the purses, organising and running the show, and so on. We want that to be a huge and successful event, so please think about what you can do to help make that happen.
We also need your ideas and personal updates, for inclusion in the Slider or The Rider, so please send along anything you have to president@orha.on.ca.
And remember, members are welcome to attend the monthly Board meetings, so please check the website for information on upcoming meetings, or email me (or one of the Directors) for details.
Finally, I wish each and every one of you the very best for the holiday season, and look forward to seeing you all at the Annual General Meeting on February 12 at the Holiday Inn in Guelph.
Safe sliding.
Carol Ivey

Grand Finale and What's Your Colour Class
The Cancer Society fundraising was a huge success at the Oct. 1 - 2 Grand Finale, with more than $2,500 raised to support the Cancer Society.
Mike Munroe wore all pink Saturday night after the pledges reached the required $500 (special thank you to Jeff Begg for writing such a large cheque to get us there), and then K.D. Grainger had her hair cut off, to be donated for a wig for a cancer survivor, and her head was also shaved after we reached $1,800.
More money was raised when Randy Wilson stepped up to have his head shaved AND his eyebrows. A lot of fun for a good cause.
The live auction raised $570, and the youth slave auction $205, half of which they also donated to the Cancer Society.
In the What's Your Colour Class, the team event was won by Lyndsay Kloster and Julie Scrivo, and the individual winner was Carol Ivey. The prizes for the winners were generously donated by Picovs, Sandy Best of Best Bandages, Lynne McDougall and Green Hawk.

ORHA DIRECTORY
We are looking to put together a Directory of ORHA breeders, trainers and coaches. Send us your information if you would like to be included to president@orha.on.ca
NEW RULE RE: Year-end eligibility
As per 2011 Rule Book, Section L, paragraph 2, page 18:
"In order to qualify for year-end awards, Champion and Reserve riders must have competed in the said class at least 50% of the total times offered at shows, and must volunteer a minimum of two hours in that calendar year to the ORHA. In order for monies earned to be eligible for year-end awards, rider and horse owner must both be a member in good standing of the ORHA."
This change reflects the custom of various other groups and Associations and is intended to get more of our members engaged in the operation of the ORHA and our shows. The volunteer time can be time served on a committee, writing articles for the Slider or The Rider, helping in the Show Office, scribing, manning the gate, and so on. An alternate person may be designated to complete the service on a member's behalf, with the time logged at the show office.
