New & Noteworthy ...
Youth 50/50 Draw
The winning ticket for the 50/50 draw is #0479926 and the recipient gets $62.50. This can be claimed by contacting the ORHya President, K.D. Grainger, at graingergal@hotmail.com.
If the prize is not claimed by July 31, the amount will be added to the pool for the next 50/50 draw.
OBBO UPDATE
In spite of protests from the membership and the ORHA Board, which were clearly expressed at the Board meeting this past Monday, the OBBO has elected to ignore the input and proceed with the new fee schedule they outlined for this year.
This schedule is now posted on the OBBO page of the website.
The Board is dismayed and disappointed that Harvey Stevens and his Committee have chosen to ignore the recommendations to phase in the new fees, or at least compromise with a smaller increase this year and then the full increase for next year.
Based on this position, it is up to the members to decide whether or not they wish to continue to participate in the OBBO, knowing what the cost will be going forward.

The ORHA Board is delighted to welcome K.D. Grainger to the role of ORHyA President for the balance of 2010.
Wendy Dyer has stepped down from the Board of the O.R.H.A. after many years of dedicated service in order to spend more time with her family and riding her horses. While this is a loss to the ORHA, we do appreciate all she has done for the Association over the years and appreciate that she will continue to be involved behind the scenes and to be our Ontario Equestrian Federation representative.
Brian Stewart has also resigned from the Board and we offer him our thanks also, and wish both him and Wendy the very best.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
The 2010 show season got off to a great start with two terrific clinics.
First was the April 24th Jordan Larson Clinic at Fletcher’s Horse World, which was a fundraiser for the Sired Stakes, and was followed by a one day Jackpot show on Sunday.
Thank you John and Sharon Fletcher for donating your facility and for being such great hosts.
On May 1st and 2nd, Joanne Milton of Rustic Meadows once again put on a fundraising clinic for the O.R.H.A., raising an impressive $1,200 with clinician, Michelle Ottiger.
Our first show of the year, on May 8th and 9th, was also held at Fletchers Horse World and was very well attended.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not treat us kindly. We had a terrible storm Friday night, which continued on into most of Saturday, making it a very challenging day that resulted in very disappointing rides for many of us.
While the sun did come out on Sunday, it remained cold and blankets were out in abundance!
However, the weekend was brightened by the Saturday evening pizza party, courtesy of Steve Russell and Laura Carr. Thank you Steve and Laura.
Kodak Canada supplied two digital photo booths, so members could print 6” X 8” photos for $0.25 each as a fundraiser for the youth. They also donated disposable cameras for the first 100 competitors, as well as hats. And again, thank you Kodak for your generosity.
And Sharon Hart once again stepped up with a donation, putting together Tim Hortons gift baskets for some lucky winners.
All in all, some great sponsors made the weekend very special in spite of the weather.
Our new entry form has been receiving good reviews, and entries should run more efficiently now that the basic information has been input. Just remember, please, to enter ALL your information on the form before submitting it.
I hope your Spring goes well and let’s all hope for better weather for our next show.
In the meantime, keep on slidin’.
Carol Ivey
ATTENTION
During the May 8th and 9th show and the July 30th, 31st and August 1st there will be a special promotion supported by Kodak Canada. Kodak will bring the newest technology digital print centres to Fletchers Horseworld, where everyone can bring their digital media camera cards to develop 4 X 6 full colour pictures for only 25 cents each. This is a great chance for everyone to develop all those pictures they have been saving on their cards with ALL proceeds going to the ORHA Youth.
WARNING -
Due to an outbreak of Strangles in Southern Ontario everyone should have in place biosecurity measures and ensure the guardian of your horse is aware of your requirements in this regard. Biosecurity measures are also applicable to human movement between barns and properties. Vaccines provide limited or no protection. DO NOT ASSUME YOUR HORSE IS SAFE.
Best practises for biosecurity can be found at:
http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/livestock/horses/facts/00-091.htm and should be implemented at all times not just during times of an outbreak of contagious disease.
And the winner of our draw at CanAm: Congratulations to Erin Blackmore of Newbury, who won the draw for the toolbox, which was generously donated by Home Hardware Cooperative.
