PROPOSED ORHA BYLAW CHANGE
Pursuant to the changes to the Not For Profit Act, the ORHA has to resubmit its bylaws to CRA for a Certificate of Continuance. There is one small change required to the bylaws to be compliant with the new Act, and that refers to specifying the minimum and maximum number of Directors the ORHA may have. Below is the current wording, followed by the proposed wording. This will have to be approved at our AGM at the end of January, so we are posting advance notice as required by our bylaws.
Article 9 - DIRECTORS Section 1 - Appointed
The business of the Association shall be managed by its Board of Directors. The Board of Directors shall be comprised of the President, First Vice-President, Second Vice- President, four (4) elected Directors, and up to a maximum of four (4) Directors appointed by the Officers, or as many as deemed necessary by the elected Board of Directors . The appointed Directors shall hold office for a period of one (1) year. All other Directors shall hold the position of Director as long as their term of office. In the event the ORHA has retained an Executive Director as set forth hereinafter in these By-Laws, the said Executive Director shall not be a member of the Board of Directors. All members of the Board of Directors must be members of ORHA.

UPDATE FROM THE YOUTH
Our second Pickering show wrapped up with great success for the ORHyA. The youth members actively participated in two fundraisers, a 50/50 draw and the exciting Egg and Spoon Race. These fundraisers turned out to be very successful for the youth, and we would like to send a warm thank you to Gary for allowing us to do so. We would also like to recognize Laura Mikulich for donating her prize money from the Egg and Spoon Race back to the youth, your support is greatly appreciated! The participation and enthusiasm shown from the youth this far is great to see, keep up the excellent work!
Our last show, which was held at Fletcher's Horseworld, once again brought many impressive rides and exciting scores. With highlights such as a Funstyle and 3 Year old Futurity, it was one not to miss. The youth owe a huge thank you to Tristan Stevens for donating his time for the boot and saddle shine, which was a great success once again. We would also like to thank the Fletcher's, and all of the participants for making the paid warm-ups a success as well. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to two of our youth members who will be heading off to school. We would like to wish Darby Mailhot and Philip Lorimer the best of luck as they move into this new stage in life, and look forward to seeing them in the near future.

The youth will be holding a "Ladies Class" at the Pickering Horse Show on Saturday August 31st. It is a jackpot class and the entry fee is $15. Its a fun class for ladies but occasionally we have a few rider dress up for the class.

MESSAGE FOR THE ORHyA
On behalf of the ORHyA, I would personally like to recognize the Fletcher's for their continuous support and ongoing generosity towards the youth. The opportunity to run two fundraisers at the first show was a huge success, and definitely would not have been possible without their support. We would also like to send a warm thank you to everyone who helped to make these fundraisers a success. Both the bake sale, and paid warmups were a huge hit, and we would like to thank not only the people who purchased these items, but also those who baked for the sale. Without this generous support, our goals for this year would not be possible.
ORHyA Vice President

All exhibitors who enter a class with the intention of schooling should immediately zero upon entering the arena as a courtesy to the judges. Legal equipment and attire is required in all NRHA approved classes. Exhibitors should be allowed to school as long as they do not exceed the time it would take the average competitor to complete the pattern and represent themselves and NRHA in a positive manner.
THANK YOU to our long time webmaster, India Hathaway, for all her hard work and commitment to maintaining our website. We are moving to a new arrangement, so please bear with us during the transition.
We would like to continue with the quarterly Slider, but to do so we need YOUR help - please send ideas, stories, news, accomplishments to email@example.com

I am delighted to be taking on the role of President of the Ontario Reining Horse Association, and I am really looking forward to the next two years.
We have a very strong Board and I expect to continue its great work in advancing the interests of the ORHA and our membership.
I would like to thank outgoing President, Carol Ivey, for her past four years of leading the ORHA - she has done a fantastic job, introducing many new initiatives and making positive changes to our Association, and our members have the utmost respect for her, and she leaves big shoes to fill.
This year holds a full slate of shows and promises to be another very successful season of reining, and I hope to meet and chat to each of you at those shows. The show calendar is of course posted on the ORHA website, and please check it regularly for updates and items of interest, and also join us on Facebook if you have not already.
If you have any questions or concerns, or ideas for the improvement of the ORHA, please feel free to come to me, or I can be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you did not add it to your 2013 membership form at the AGM, please email your NRHA number, and if applicable OEF number, to Anne Pearse at email@example.com You will NOT be included in the Affiliate standings if your NRHA number is not listed on your membership form.

REMINDER FOR YEAR-END AWARDS
Please remember: in order to be eligible to win a year-end award, you must have completed two hours of volunteer work AND it must be entered and confirmed in the Volunteer Binder at the show office. To earn hours at the Grand Finale show, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Equine Canada has a new REINING COACH certification program approved by NCCP and Sport Canada. Certified coaches receive reduced insurance rates and are listed on the EC and OEF websites.
NEW RULE RE: Year-end eligibility
As per 2012 Rule Book, Section L, paragraph 2, page 18:
"In order to qualify for year-end awards, Champion and Reserve riders must have competed in the said class at least 50% of the total times offered at shows, and must volunteer a minimum of two hours in that calendar year to the ORHA. In order for monies earned to be eligible for year-end awards, rider and horse owner must both be a member in good standing of the ORHA."
This change reflects the custom of various other groups and Associations and is intended to get more of our members engaged in the operation of the ORHA and our shows. The volunteer time can be time served on a committee, writing articles for the Slider or The Rider, helping in the Show Office, scribing, manning the gate, and so on. An alternate person may be designated to complete the service on a member's behalf, with the time logged at the show office.

YOUTH MEMBERS - HELMET REQUIREMENT
Further to the open discussion at the AGM, and the overwhelming consensus from the adult members present at that meeting, the ORHA has introduced a mandatory helmet rule for all riders under the age of 18, as follows:
All riders under the age of 18 must wear an approved safety helmet while mounted on a horse at any ORHA approved show. Any rider aged 14 to 18 is exempt from this requirement while showing in a class IF a signed waiver from a parent is on file at the show office.
