All exhibitors who enter a class with the intention of schooling should immediately zero upon entering the arena as a courtesy to the judges. Legal equipment and attire is required in all NRHA approved classes. Exhibitors should be allowed to school as long as they do not exceed the time it would take the average competitor to complete the pattern and represent themselves and NRHA in a positive manner.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
I am delighted to be taking on the role of President of the Ontario Reining Horse Association, and I am really looking forward to the next two years.
We have a very strong Board and I expect to continue its great work in advancing the interests of the ORHA and our membership.
I would like to thank outgoing President, Carol Ivey, for her past four years of leading the ORHA - she has done a fantastic job, introducing many new initiatives and making positive changes to our Association, and our members have the utmost respect for her, and she leaves big shoes to fill.
This year holds a full slate of shows and promises to be another very successful season of reining, and I hope to meet and chat to each of you at those shows. The show calendar is of course posted on the ORHA website, and please check it regularly for updates and items of interest, and also join us on Facebook if you have not already.
If you have any questions or concerns, or ideas for the improvement of the ORHA, please feel free to come to me, or I can be reached by email at president@orha.on.ca.

NEW RULE RE: Year-end eligibility
As per 2012 Rule Book, Section L, paragraph 2, page 18:
"In order to qualify for year-end awards, Champion and Reserve riders must have competed in the said class at least 50% of the total times offered at shows, and must volunteer a minimum of two hours in that calendar year to the ORHA. In order for monies earned to be eligible for year-end awards, rider and horse owner must both be a member in good standing of the ORHA."
This change reflects the custom of various other groups and Associations and is intended to get more of our members engaged in the operation of the ORHA and our shows. The volunteer time can be time served on a committee, writing articles for the Slider or The Rider, helping in the Show Office, scribing, manning the gate, and so on. An alternate person may be designated to complete the service on a member's behalf, with the time logged at the show office.

YOUTH MEMBERS - HELMET REQUIREMENT
Further to the open discussion at the AGM, and the overwhelming consensus from the adult members present at that meeting, the ORHA has introduced a mandatory helmet rule for all riders under the age of 18, as follows:
All riders under the age of 18 must wear an approved safety helmet while mounted on a horse at any ORHA approved show. Any rider aged 14 to 18 is exempt from this requirement while showing in a class IF a signed waiver from a parent is on file at the show office.
